Spring/Summer care

Always keep your Sarracenia plants sat in a tray of rain water at least 2-4 cm.

Please remember to keep topping up water levels - never let them dry out!

In very hot weather I would advise over watering, they are bog plants and like it wet.

 Sarracenia Plants

Place your Sarracenia plant in the sunniest position you have, like a south facing windowsill, or conservatory. Sarracenia's are also happy in a unheated greenhouse or outside in a peat bog garden.

Trim off any old or browning tubes as they appear, they are replaced with new tubes quite quickly.

Autumn/ winter care

As the clocks change and the light levels drop your Sarracenia plant will slow or stop growing.

The tubes will start to go brown but don't panic, this is normal. Trim the brown parts off leaving the green on the plant (see photo)

Sarracenia care

As the plants are now dormant reduce water level to 2cm or just damp.

Place you plant into a cold environment in November, unheated green house or outside in a tray of rain water and leave till February.

Subzero temperatures are no problem they are hardy below -10.

Now trim off all foliage exposing growing point (see photo) .

Now your plant is ready for spring/summer care

Repotting your sarracenia

Your plant only needs repotting every 2/3 years they like being pot bound .

The easiest way to tell is squeeze the pot. If it is soft and the soil moves it, it will be fine for another year .

If it is hard to the squeeze and doesn’t move and or the plant is growing over the top of the pot. Then yes it time to repot.

Choose a new pot about 1 inch bigger than the one your plant is already in.

Put a small amount of soil (peat and perlite mix) in the bottom of the pot, so you keep the top of the plant at the growing points above top of the pot.

Slip plant out of pot, and place in new and fill with soil around the plant and firm in.

Place into a tray of rain water and allow to get nice and wet again, put into sunny place and it will be very happy.

Soil is very important carnivores plants grow in peat bogs. The soil is very nutrient poor , this why these plant have adapted their leaves to catch insects.

Soil can be purchased in our shop.
