Spring/Summer care

Place your plant on a shallow tray of rain water 1/2cm deep.

Place your plant in a sunny windowsill preferably south facing.

Around April your Venus fly trap will try to flower, this looks like a thick stem with a point at the end, trim this off as it takes a lot of energy from the plant and can kill it. It also allows all energy to go to making large traps.

Through the summer the plant will replace traps, after the trap has triggered three times, the traps go brown and we just trim them off and new ones will place at regular intervals till the clock change in October.

Autumn/ winter care

From October onwards the plant will stop growing, it goes dormant.

We now reduce watering to just 1cm and they would like a colder place to winter eg. If in a south facing windowsill for summer then place in a north facing windowsill from October to march.

Every other year Venus fly traps like to have clean soil (50/50 peat and perlite)

Repotting your Venus Fly trap

Repotting is best done at the end of the summer around September. There is no way not to set the traps off but they will reopen in 24 hr.

Slip out off pot and gently brush soil off roots then repot with fresh soil keeping the bulb of plant just below the surface ( do plant deep in the pot) and place in rain water to let it get wet again.

It will look a little sad after repotting but come spring they grow vigorously all season.
